WALGETT

Walgett encompasses an area classed as the biggest geographical shire in NSW which subtly slips into the authentic Australian outback. Within that tremendous vastness, across those wide, flat, open spaces, you are immediately granted a sense of freedom.

The Barwon and Namoi Rivers meet in Walgett before flowing into the imposing Darling River, so whether floating in a tinny or sitting on the banks in a folding chair with the esky, you’ll soak in the relaxing atmosphere.

Embedded in our vast, diverse landscape, agriculture is a wealth of production derived from traditional and innovative practices. Large scale production of wheat, barley, oats, canola and faba beans. Cotton is grown, developing from a small seed into a bush filled with fluffy cotton balls, putting on a spectacular snow-like exhibition. The region also produces high quality sheep, cattle and more recently, goats.

Relax at the Showground for a minimal fee or in Alex Trevallion Park, an RV Friendly primitive campground (contact the Walgett Visitor Information Centre for details).
