WALGETT PUBLIC ART
Taking silver in the 2022 Australian Street Awards for the Best Mega Mural, is the painting of local entertainer Jimmy Little, displayed across the face of the Walgett Water Tower. The mural, a tribute to the legendary Indigenous musician, is based on a photograph by John Elliott, with artist Jenny McCracken bringing the portrait to life in an impressive piece of artwork. The background of the painting was designed by local Gamilaroi artist Frank Wright and portrays the Walgett Region, including rivers and local totems, the sand goanna, dragonfly and emu. On closer inspection, admirers of the painting can see the reflection of Jimmy’s wife in his eyes.
Scattered through town are various murals many painted by local school children. and with a collaboration of two artists Frank Wright and John Murray.
