BREWARRINA'S HISTORICAL BARWON BRIDGE
The historic Barwon Bridge is one of only two remaining early lift span bridges in NSW. It was built in 1888 to open up the ‘back country’ and could lift in the centre to allow paddle steamers carrying wool and other supplies to travel up and down the river.
The historic bridge is now closed to traffic, it's a picturesque spot to take in the region’s epic sunrises and sunsets.
A little further downstream, about 100 metres before the Weir and Baiame’s Ngunnhu lies a hidden wreck of one of those early paddle steamers, the Wandering Jew, which burnt and sunk in 1914. The wreckage can still be seen today when the river is very low.
In the shadow of the bridge lies an acclaimed free riverside camping area. Launch your watercraft from the boat ramp, fish from the pontoon, or simply kick back under a gum and watch the world float by.
