GUNNEDAH LOOKOUTS
Two lookouts impart a beautiful vista over the surrounding areas. Pensioners Hill Lookout offers a great view over the township and the short walk up the hill to the top takes you past Aboriginal Carved Trees and the Heritage Sculptures before you’re greeted by a majestic metal eagle soaring over Gunnedah. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic or a daydream moment!
Porcupine Hill Lookout will give you a sweeping view over the plains and if you feel energetic you can tackle one of the walks that make up the Bindea walking tracks network. Who knows, you might spot a koala on your travels!
The views from the lookout will inspire you to go for a country drive to take in the crops brushing the landscape with seasonal colours. In September, canola and silky oak flowers colour the landscape in vibrant yellow, contrasting with the purple of the jacarandas in the streets of Gunnedah. October glistens in gold as the wheat ripens for harvest. The sunburnt country in summer turns the deep rusty red of the sorghum in February and March before giving way to a bed of white fluffy cotton bursting out of their bolls in May.
