Black Opal

Lightning Ridge and surrounding opal fields have the largest deposits of black opal in the world. Black opal is the rarest and most valuable of opals, with a unique dark body tone that acts to intensify the vibrancy of colour networking throughout the stone and culminating into spectacular gems. Opals can be purchased at local retailers, some attractions and the Sunday Markets.

On 27th July 1993 opal became Australia’s National Stone.
